Yoga Nidra in Cumming, Georgia
Rest deeply. Let go completely. Come home to yourself.
Some days you don’t need another practice, you need permission to stop. Yoga Nidra, often called “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation practiced lying down, designed to bring you into one of the deepest states of rest available while you stay gently aware. No stretching, no poses, no effort. Just you, supported, and given the space to truly let go.
What Is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a systematic, guided relaxation that moves you through layers of the body and mind into a state between waking and sleep. You’ll be lying down the entire time, fully supported by props, while a voice guides you through body awareness, breath, and gentle visualization.
It’s not a nap, and it’s not quite meditation in the traditional sitting sense either. It’s its own thing: a practice that can access the same restorative depth as hours of sleep, often in 30 to 45 minutes. Research has linked it to reduced anxiety, better sleep, and a calmer nervous system, but honestly, most people don’t need the research to feel it working.
Who Is Yoga Nidra For?
Yoga Nidra is for anyone who feels:
- Wired but tired, or stuck in a low hum of stress
- Exhausted but unable to actually rest or sleep well
- Overstimulated by screens, noise, or the sheer pace of life
- Carrying tension they can’t quite name or release
- Curious about meditation but frustrated by sitting still
No flexibility, yoga background, or meditation experience required. If you can lie down and breathe, you can do this practice.

What to Expect in Class
You’ll lie down on a mat, fully supported with blankets, bolsters, and an eye pillow (whatever you have at home works just fine). There’s no movement once we begin, just your body settling in and your voice being the only thing you need to follow.
I’ll guide you through a body scan, breath awareness, and a short visualization, all designed to invite your nervous system out of “go” mode and into rest. Some people stay fully aware the whole time. Others drift in and out, or fall asleep entirely. There’s no wrong way to experience it, and you don’t have to try to relax, that’s the whole point. It happens on its own.
What a Yoga Nidra Practice Includes:
- Settling in and body awareness
- Breath-based grounding
- A guided body scan
- Gentle visualization or intention setting
- A slow, unhurried return to waking awareness

Why Yoga Nidra?
Because you can’t pour from an empty cup, and also because sometimes rest is the whole point, not something you have to earn first. Because your nervous system deserves a practice that asks nothing of it. And because you deserve to feel truly at ease, even if just for 30 minutes.
